Tomasita Maria Chavez

Tomasita Maria Jaramillo Chavez, 102 years old, of Encino, NM, passed away November 16, 2021, in Estancia, NM. She was born Sept. 11, 1919, to Alcario and Paublita (Benavidez) Dominguez in Derramadero, NM. Tomasita is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Anna, Ramona and Celestino; her husband Enrique (married April 24, 1939), twin babies Paublita and Antonia; daughter Ida Jaramillo; son Juan Jaramillo; son Jerry Jaramillo; son Henry Jaramillo Jr and his ex-wife Arcelia, and his longtime partner Linda Chapman; son Patricio Jaramillo and his wife Linda; two grandsons Jeremy Jaramillo and Isaac Padilla. Tomasita is survived by one son, Felipe and Antonia Jaramillo of Edgewood, NM; five daughters, Viola and J. Leo Larranaga of Edgewood, NM; Catherine and Justo Chavez of Clovis, NM; Cecilia and Gabriel Garcia of Santa Fe, NM; Rebecca and Ray Ky Denison of Corrales, NM and Charlotte and Herman Padilla of Albuquerque, NM; two daughters-in-law Barbarba Jaramillo and Rita Jaramillo; 30 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Tomasita was a good friend to everyone, and she is survived by many friends she made in her lifetime. The family sends loving appreciation to her caretakers of 10 years, Candido and Flora Alarid. Tomasita was an amazing cook, and a master at making small amounts of food go a long way and the first question she always asked when anyone walked through her door was “what do you want to eat” and she would list what she had ready. The evidence would be on her wood burning stove, and fresh tortillas were always on the menu. Her cooking was not only for family, for many years she worked at various restaurants in the area, including the Rio Pecos Cafe and the Encino Schools cafeteria. She also brought her smile, cheer and platica to everyone on her mail route for 25 years. A Private Family Only rosary will be recited Saturday Nov. 27, 2021 @ 10:00 am with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 11:00 am, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino, NM. Burial will follow at the Encino Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Timothy Chavez, Phillip Jaramillo, Bruce Jaramillo, Curtis Garcia, Andy Larranaga, and Jamie Jaramillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jason Jaramillo, Robert Chavez, Leo Chavez, Mark Jaramillo, Ky Denison, Michael Denison, and Isaac Padilla. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM.
