Ruby Alice (Nicholas) Shaw entered into Eternal rest and earned her wings on Friday, November 15, 2019 in Bosque Farms, NM. Ruby was born on June 22, 1922 to the home of Willis Marvin and Ester Myrtle Lee (Beasley) Nicholas in Whitney, Texas. She was the youngest of eleven siblings. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Padernal, NM until the 8th grade. Upon completing the 8th grade, Ruby moved to Moriarty to live with her brother and sister-in-law to attend high school. Ruby married the love of her life, JW Shaw, on February 14, 1946. Together they weathered the trials of ranching, farming, and traveling road construction. In 1961, they were able to come back home to Mountainair to live permanently. On their return, JW began a job with the state Highway Department. After his retirement as Foreman in 1988, JW and Ruby spent many years traveling. One of the most memorable trips was to Colorado with the grandchildren. The grandkids never understood why they only got to eat at McDonalds once but Grandmom got to eat at her favorite place twice. Ruby was a member of the Church of Christ on the hill. She was active in the Cowbelles, Coronado Club, Mountainair Volunteer Fire Department, and in later years the Senior Citizens Center. She tried to never miss morning coffee with her Coffee Crew: Ruth, Joyce, and Marion. Ruby was a very beautiful quilter and seamstress. She loved to try new projects like her jean purse or ceramics phases. We will miss so many things about Grandmom Ruby, especially her “Rubyisms” like handy as a pocket on a shirt. It was like she had her own special language. Left to Honor Ruby and remember her love are her daughters: Linda Ann (Richard) Shovelin of Mountainair and Marilyn Kay (Wayne) Coffey of Albuquerque. Four grandchildren: Shawna (Cade) Skinner of Portales, NM, Jeff Shovelin of Mountainair, Douglas Coffey, and Kyle (Eileen) Coffey of Albuquerque. Four great-grandchildren: Coleton Lee Radford and Katelynn Jo, Collin Derek and Kinsley McCay Skinner. Her brother-and sister-in-laws: Jerry (Marion) Shaw and Joyce Shaw of Mountainair, and Helen Shaw of Ft. Sumner, NM. Also numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband JW on April 25, 1998, a baby daughter Dawna, her brothers and sisters: Lena Horton, Adele Ledbetter, Wylie (Bill) Nicholas, Emory (Heavy) Nicholas, Fannie Florence (Flo) Caswell, Jesse (Bob) Nicholas, Lloyd (Red) Nicholas, and twins Roy Dee and Troy Dee (in infancy); her parents, Jay’s parents Mike and Modena Shaw and brothers-in-law: Carroll Shaw and Sam Shaw. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the BeeHive home of Bosque Farms for the compassion and care they gave to Ruby in her final years. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Harris Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair, NM. The Viewing will be at 10:00 A.M. and the Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Nathan White will officiate. Pallbearers will be Douglas Coffey, Kyle Coffey, Cade Skinner, Jeff Shovelin, Collin Skinner and Coleton Radford. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kinsley Skinner, Katelynn Skinner, Shawna Skinner and Eileen Coffey. Burial will be at the Mountainair Cemetery.
