Ronald Onofre Chavez

Ronald Onofre Chavez, 65, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 8th at his residence in Wagon Wheel, New Mexico. Ronnie was born on November 16, 1956 in Santa fe, New Mexico to the late Ramon and Elma Dolores Chavez (Hightower). He was raised in Santa fe, Stanley and Los Cavos (Tapia) and attended schools in Santa fe and Moriarty. On July 26, 1975 he married Mary Alice Villanueva at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, New Mexico. Ronnie worked in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He was precise on the backhoe but could also be found on a scraper, dozer, paver or loader. In the late 80's Ronnie was injured on the job while operating a loader and sustained a life changing back injury. After a long recuperation he purchased a tandem truck and backhoe and started his own business, ROC Trucking. Ronnie loved spending time at the ranch with his family riding horses and of course laughing and drinking beer with his uncles and cousins. He was funny and he was kind, the life of the party in his younger years. He loved his family and was very proud of all his children and grandchildren. He was a man that often said I love you and he hugged and kissed his family every chance he got. Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, sister Susan Herrera and niece Baby Alice. His Grandparents Catalino and Onofre Chavez and Grandparents William and Sue Hightower and Fred Lopez. Also, In-Laws Cipriano and Bersabe Villanueva, Brother-in-Law Randy Chavez, Brother-in-law David Villanueva, Brother-in-Law Cecilio Villanueva, Sister-in-Law Merlinda Villanueva, Sister-in-Law Florence Villanueva, Sister-in-Law Lorrie Villanueva and Brother-in-Law George Smith. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 46 years Alice and his children Consuelo Chavez and husband Robert; Vanessa Chavez, and Alisha Cordova and husband Tyler, and grandchildren, Aaliyah, Isaac, Nyssah, Julian, Serenity and Eric. Recitation of the holy Rosary will be on Friday, March 18th at 10AM @ Our lady Of Mount Carmel Church in Moriarty, New Mexico with the Funeral mass to follow at 11 AM. Internment to follow at Los Cavos Cemetery (Tapia, NM). Serving as Pallbearers are Buck Chavez, Jeff R. Chavez, Steve Chavez, Eddie Baca, Estevan Villanueva, Jamie Chavez, Jeff A. Chavez, Roger West and Randy West. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie’s Children and Grandchildren. All services have been entrusted to Harris Hanlon Mortuary, 807 Central Ave, Moriarty, New Mexico.
