Robert "Bob" James Lydon

April 26, 1937 — April 27, 2024

Robert “Bob” James Lydon April 26th 1937- April 27th 2024 Robert’s life is remembered and honored for the great and accomplished man he was. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. As a youth he spent his summers working on a family friend's ranch in the Estancia Valley of New Mexico, which he fondly remembered. He served in the United States Navy as an enlisted sailor for four years stationed in Seattle, WA. This is where he and Mary Ann met, his wife of 60 years, whom he loved and cherished until the day he died. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, they lived in Seattle, Chicago, Connecticut, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Jersey and finally spent their last 27 years in Edgewood, New Mexico. His education after his naval service included an engineering degree from Seattle University, a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Loyola University in Chicago, and a Masters of Business Administration degree at Northwestern University in Illinois. Bob also studied Catholic theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. Bob was a very successful businessman. His career included working in sales and marketing, publishing, advertising, public relations and business consulting. He was a CEO and president to many well known domestic and foreign based companies within these fields. He was also employed by the governments of the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland as part of his accomplishments. He devoted his life to his everlasting love and faith in the Catholic Church. Bob was a 4th Degree Knight and involved with the Chalice program. He was a part of the diaconate formation program for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and a chaplain for many inmates here in his beloved state of New Mexico. He was very active in the church ministries and taught faith based history to adult and middle school students in the Edgewood/Tijeras parishes. Bob’s love for family history was deeply rooted in his Irish heritage and Catholic faith. He and Mary Ann spent many years traveling together overseas in Europe and Israel. Bob was known as an admirable storyteller of their many adventures, proudly carrying on his Gaelic tradition. Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann. He is survived by his three sons Patrick, Daniel and Sean Robert, grandchildren Danny, Caitlyn, Connor, Julianna, Raechel, William, Robert and 6 great-grandchildren. His unexpected death reminds us of how precious and fragile life is. We pray for Bob’s soul and that he may now rest in peace with Mary Ann in heaven. May his legacy and memory be an inspiration and blessing to all who knew him. Bob’s memorial service is to be held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Edgewood, New Mexico on Tuesday, May 21st. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM with a reception following immediately after Mass in the hall next to the church. Robert and Mary Ann’s cremations shall be placed with honor at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers their wishes were that any donations be made to EWTN.
