Richard A. Pierson 79, of Edgewood, NM gained his heavenly wings on April 21, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Marseilles, IL to Everett and Ann Pierson. Richard was fiercely passionate about his relationship with the Lord and lived his life accordingly. Early in his adulthood he built funny cars and dragsters in addition to serving our great country. After his daughters were born, he built dune buggies and painted race cars and signs at the local racetrack. Richard worked many years as a truck driver at ABF Freight where he was known as “Viking” and retired in 2004. In his later years he was an artist, avid bicyclist, woodworker, and loved tinkering around the house. He had a close relationship with his grandson Jared who he loved spending time with. He also enjoyed his time at the Senior Center in Edgewood where he taught art classes and made many great friends. He is survived by his wife Setsuko Hagitani-Pierson and daughters Miki Wood (Michael) and Shelly Pierson. Grandchildren Shauna Lawler Inge (Jake), Alexandra Lawler (Derek Gossett) and Jared Atencio. He was so proud of his great-grandchildren SharaMae, Shaylene, Zander, Alannah, David, and Axell. He is also survived by his brother Robert Pierson and nephew John (Alicia) and their children Carter and Kennedy. There will be a Graveside Service on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the Stanley Cemetery in Stanley, NM. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, New Mexico.
