Peter John Tremko, 85, passed away on December 28, 2020 in Edgewood, New Mexico. He was born on June 19, 1935 in Stafford Springs, Connecticut to the late Peter and Anna (Evans) Tremko. Peter attended Windham Technical High School in Willimantic, CT. and studied to become a carpenter. In 1956 he married his soul mate and love of his life, Elaine Dehulla. Peter owned and operated “Tremko and Sons Construction” in Willington, CT. After that he worked for the US Department of Agriculture where he oversaw the building of Flood Control Projects in Connecticut and later in New Mexico. After retiring from the Department of Agriculture Peter and Elaine built a Cabin on the North Side of Heron Lake in Rutheron, NM and travelled extensively, seeing all 50 states of the country. They made several trips to Alaska and loved going there. Peter also continued to serve his community by joining the Laguna Vista Volunteer Fire Department. He earned a certificate as an EMT and worked at the fire department until he was 80 years old having served in many position including Fire Chief. One of his joys was marching in the annual Chama Days Parade as Smokey the Bear. Peter was an avid baseball fan and loved the New York Yankees. He was a licensed Ham radio operator with call sign of WA1ZOU and he used his own phonetics of WA1 ZIPPI Orange Underwear. In 2015 Peter and Elaine moved to Edgewood, New Mexico due to declining health. In 2018 they moved into at the Bee Hive Assisted Living in Edgewood, where they received excellent care. Peter is also preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Tremko and sister, Lillian. He is survived by his sister Margaret and his children, Peter Tremko, Brian Tremko, Kenneth Tremko and Laurie Housel. Peter was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 4 (soon to be 5) great grandchildren. A Private Family Funeral will take place at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Moriarty, New Mexico.
