Michiyo Mabry

March 3, 1946 — October 12, 2021

Michiyo Mabry, a long time resident of Moriarty, NM, passed away in the hospital in Japan, Tuesday, October 12th, due to complications from cancer. Michiyo was born March 3, 1946 in Kumamoto City Japan. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sadahiro and Hisako Kawamoto, her husband Walter Freeman Mabry and her Stepson Edwin "Chief" Mabry. She is survived by her brother Sadatsugu Kawamoto, her sister Hiroko Matsumura, her nephew Youske Kawamoto all of Japan, daughter in law Patricia Romero-Mabry of Moriarty, Grandson Bryan Mabry of Lakewood, NJ, Granddaughter Angela Mabry of Moriarty, Stepson Bruce Mabry, Grandson Sean Mabry, Granddaughter Alana Mabry, Grandson Logan Annan and Granddaughter Tamara Mabry all of New Zealand, in-laws Pat and Gloria Romero of Moriarty and brother in law Lorenze Mabry of South Carolina. Michiyo and Walter were married in Japan while Walter was stationed there in the United States Navy. Michiyo was a waitress at Woody's Truck Stop and Rip Griffins for several years, she ultimately had to leave her job to be her husband Walter's full time caregiver as he battled Huntington's disease until his death on September 6, 2000. After she sold her house in Moriarty, she returned to her home country of Japan to be near her family. Michiyo's service was held in Japan. Michiyo was a supporter of The Huntington's Disease Society of America, please make a donation to the Huntington ’s Disease Society of America at hdsa.org in memory of Walter Mabry, Chester Mabry and Edwin Mabry. Her Grandson Bryan Mabry, to further research, education, and advocacy efforts on behalf of all those suffering with Huntington’s disease.
