Manuel “Manny” Chavez, 91, of Rio Rancho, NM passed away June 14, 2018 in Albuquerque, NM. Manuel was born July 21, 1926 in Ortiz, NM (Ortiz Mountains) near Cerrillos, NM. Manuel is preceded in death by his wife Natalie Chavez, stepdaughter Mary Ann Lopez; parents Faustin and Juanita (Romero) Chavez; brothers Ramon and Cesario Chavez and sisters Dometelia (Tillie) Anaya, Valentina Padilla, and Alberta Pena. Manuel was raised in Galisteo, NM and moved to Southern California in the late 1950’s. He worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for many years and retired. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. He moved to Las Vegas, NV where he regularly visited the casino’s buffets and was fond of playing Black Jack. He moved back to New Mexico in 2009 to be with his children and live his final years. Manuel’s hobbies were collecting models of old cars and LA Dodgers memorabilia; and not a day went by without him reading the newspaper. Manuel is survived by his four children Kenneth Manuel Chavez, Cynthia Romero, Ronald Chavez, and Yolanda Herrera; stepsons Charlie and Mike Lopez and their families. Sister Brijida (Vicky) Anaya, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. A public viewing will be held Monday, June 18, 2018 at 8:30 A.M. at the Neustra Senora de Los Remedios Church in Galisteo, NM. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 A.M. with the Celebration of Mass to follow at 10:30 A.M. Burial to follow at the Galisteo Cemetery. Pall bearers will be his grandchildren Antoinette Davis, Tyrone Davis, Jamaal Davis, Monica Herrera, Jeremy Herrera and Naomi Herrera (great grandsons Gabriel Montano & Josiah Davis).
