Laraine Lavaughn Harris

Laraine LaVaughn Harris, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She was born on September 1, 1939, in Modesto, California to the late William Vaughn Jackson and Vera Vita (Heath) Jackson. Throughout her life, she loved to move and have new adventures. She loved riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and was extremely interested in food and nutrition. She once dedicated a whole summer to making bread and baking the best chocolate cake in the world (the one with cinnamon!). She was an accomplished seamstress, and was known for her excellent cross-stitch talents, winning first place in the New Mexico State Fair. Laraine was also very interested in genealogy and spent many hours researching her relatives and completing their records in ancestry websites. Laraine also loved music, and her tastes ranged from Broadway music, Pink Floyd, Country Music, and Elvis. She was also an avid reader of many genres. Laraine is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved being a member of the Carlsbad Wards. Laraine is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Harris. She is also preceded in death by her Daughter, Cheryl Ann Neely and by her Son, Donald Kaye Johnson. Laraine is survived by her Daughter, Jamie Neely of Yountville, California, and Her Daughter, Cathy Pike of Carlsbad, NM. She is also survived by her stepchildren Lori and Jeremy Nolan of Amarillo, TX, Kevin and Ann Kegler of Germany, and Kim Simme of Buffalo, NY. She is also survived by her Brother Wayne Lee Jackson, and her Sister Linda Sue Platter. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, March 4, 2024, at 9:00 am and funeral at 10:00 a.m. at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM. She will be interred at the Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty, NM immediately following the service.
