Jordan Christopher Garrick

August 20, 1975 — November 18, 2023

Jordan Garrick, devoted brother and friend to many, passed away suddenly at his home in Stanley, New Mexico on November 18. He was 48 years old. Jordan Christopher Garrick was born in South Bend, Indiana and lived an itinerant life in places as varied as Middletown, Delaware; Castelldefels, Spain; Big Sur, California; and numerous places in New Mexico. He graduated from Newark Academy in Livingston, New Jersey in 1993 just prior to moving to Albuquerque with his parents, John and Sandy. In his twenties he found a passion for horses and spent most of his career as a farrier in New Mexico and California. In his late thirties, he had the opportunity to spend several years living and working at the New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur where he found spiritual peace and purpose, making himself an invaluable presence to the community there. His many interests included baseball, his dogs, movie and television acting, 1980s glam metal music, exercising, learning to speak Spanish, writing, working on vehicles and being outdoors with nature. He was a free spirit who had many facets of personality. His movie and TV impersonations were always a source of humor, and his curiosity about the world around him had no bounds. When his brother Jamie would visit, Jordan would always insist on getting out his old baseball glove to have a catch in his yard. He made friends easily and would often drop what he was doing at a moment’s notice to go help a friend or family member in need. Jordan spent much of his final years in close devotion to caring for his parents, moving back to Stanley full-time to be nearer to them in their final years. He touched the lives of many people in all the places where he spent time during his life. Jordan is survived by a daughter, Chloe, of Corrales, New Mexico; and his two brothers, Jonathan of Pawleys Island, South Carolina and Jamie of Guilford, Connecticut. Burial is on November 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stanley Cemetery, next to his parents.
