Jeffrey Wayne Couch

November 3, 1965 — September 2, 2021

Jeffrey Wayne Couch, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend went to be with the Lord peacefully from home at the age of 55 on Thursday, September 2, 2021, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on November 3, 1965 in Louisville, Kentucky to mother Ester Smith Zapata and father Bobby Couch. At an early age, the family moved to Kingsville, Texas where Jeff grew up in a loving family with his mom, step-father, 2 sisters and 1 brother. He would live in Kingsville throughout his school years and graduate from H.M. King High School in 1983. Jeff had a deep love for his family and cherished the time they would spend together on vacations and playing practical jokes on each other. As the oldest, Jeff wanted to portray the part of being the overprotective bossy big brother but in reality, he was the most loving brother who we could lean on, count on and was someone we could tell on. After graduating High School, Jeff began his 10-year military career where he served his Country proudly in the United States Army, United States Navy and the National Guard, earning many accolades such as a Navy E Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment with a Bronze Star and a Southwest Asia Service Medal with a Bronze Star. As the next step in Jeff’s career, he enrolled in college and completed his training and certification to become an EMT Paramedic. While maintaining his employment as an EMT, Jeff worked towards obtaining his Engineering Degree. Upon completion, he went on to work for various oil companies such as Halliburton, Baker Hughes and Anchor Drilling Fluids where he retired from. Upon retirement, Jeff would finally be able to put more time and effort into doing the things that he loved like fishing, hunting, video games, researching his genealogy, gun collecting and most recently CB radios. Jeff was a driven professional with an unmatched work ethic. He believed if you want something you mustn’t simply wish for it but must work hard to obtain it and once said, “wish in one hand and sh*t in the other and see which one fills up faster.” That’s just one of many quirky quotes Jeff would use to try and get his point across. As a devoted, loving Father, he taught his children how to be responsible, respectful and to never give up on things in life that you really want. It was no secret that Jeff’s love for his children was sacrificial, patient, (at times) kind, humble, honest, forgiving, faithful and selfless. That’s the legacy that he wanted to be remembered by. Jeff was also a caring friend that was always willing to lend a helping hand. Friends will say he shared a good rapport because he was so loving, affectionate, generous and always had a positive and happy attitude. Known by many as a “jack of all trades, master of none” – if something was broken – he knew how to fix it with tools in hand. Jeff had a great sense of humor and loved being with family and friends. He was always laughing and there wasn’t a joke he would not tell. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Jeff married Marsha on March 15, 2018. They lived in Edgewood, NM. There Jeff and Marsha raised their fur babies and went on many adventures trying out new restaurants and traveling when they could. After long days, they enjoyed relaxing at home and watching movies while creating life long memories together. Marsha remained dedicated to Jeff and was by his side until the very end. He was preceded in death by his father Bobby Couch. His grandmother, Lindy Smith and grandfather Richard Smith. Among those left to cherish his memory are: his wife Marsha Couch, his mother Ester Smith Zapata, his father Martin Zapata, his son James Couch (Sarah), his daughters Jana Dunn (Michael), Cara Couch, his step-daughter Melissa Dalton, his sisters Lisa Servantes (Steve), Linda Bernal (Luis), his brother Richard Zapata (Venessa), his nieces Amanda Schiwitz (John) , Ashley Ortiz (Eddie), Laci Nicole Bernal (Lee), his nephew Luke Bernal (Laci Ann), his great nephews Skylar Servantes, Caelum Ortiz, Liam Asher Trinh and Phoenix Ortiz, his great niece, Eslyn Ortiz and granddaughter Mikayla. Visitation will be held: 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary, 807 Central Ave. Moriarty, NM. 87035. With a Memorial Service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the VA Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501. Honorary Pallbearers are: James Couch, Santos Tapia, Jason Jepsen, Rick Sorenson, Eddie Lomax and Pride Armstrong. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Hospice of New Mexico, Dr. Lutz, hospice nurse Nicole Whipple and hospice aide Tasha for their constant, attentive treatment.
