James William Miller

March 4, 1962 — September 26, 2023

James (Jim) passed into the next life on September 26, 2023 joining his parents, William D. Miller and Rose Anna (Valenti) Miller. Jim was 61 and still had so many robotic and construction projects yet to build. He had a determinedly persevering spirit and an unquenchable thirst to learn. Jim was the third of four children, the only boy. His sisters, Cynthia Miller, Catherine Miller, and Roxanne (John) Carpenter remember many stories of Jim taking things apart as a child and then being perfectly capable of reassembling them. The family grew up in the Rochester, NY area in a house adjacent to abandoned farm land and woods. Jim maintained his lifelong love of the outdoors, hiking, photography, and animal friends. Jim’s ever inquisitive mind was drawn to electronics, computers, and technology eventually branching out into robotics. After the family moved to Albuquerque, Jim attended Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Instituted (now Central New Mexico Community College) earning a certificate in Digital Electronics. Jim found a job repairing electronic cash registers, but shortly thereafter decided that being in business for himself was more suitable to his goals. He eventually became good friends with Ron Hamby (who passed away in 2013). For many years they helped each other with business ventures and just getting through life. Jim kept his knack for figuring out how things are put together acquiring over the years more knowledge and tools to where he could fix just about anything. He spent many years working as a handyman and also had many odd construction jobs. Over the years, Jim lived in small towns and rural areas in Colorado, the Tucson area, and New Mexico including more recently the beautiful Hondo Valley near Ruidoso, NM. Jim never needed the big city. He was happy with the basics of life and a project to work on. Jim could turn the most mundane story into a sidesplitting tale. His compassion covered all life from insects to differently abled persons. He was sociable and fun to be with. His family and many friends miss him dearly. The memorial mass will be on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. John XXIII Catholic Community at 4831 Tramway Ridge Drive NE in Albuquerque, NM. A rosary will be recited preceding the mass at 9:00 AM. Burial will be on Monday, October 16, at 9:00 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 7999 Wyoming Boulevard NE in Albuquerque. Everyone is welcome to attend.
