James "Jim" Blake Summers Jr.

December 23, 1946 — December 29, 2020

James “Jim” Blake Summers Jr., 74, passed away on December 29, 2020. Growing up in a military family he moved around a great deal with his 6 siblings (7 in all). It was in North Dakota that he met his beautiful bride, Elizabeth “Betty” Marie. After about 7 years of marriage, Jim moved his young family to New Mexico to settle in the Estancia Valley. He resided nearest Tajique but owned and provided service with his business, Apple Mountain Printing, in Estancia for 40 years. He was a founding member of the non-profit, Sanctuary Zone as well as a founding owner of Summers Bail. Jim’s involvement with his church and community was at the heart and soul of his everyday life. He served on the parish financial and advisory council for many years, as well as served as a leader and team member for Marriage Enrichment programs through the Church. He was an active Knights of Columbus member. He served as a county commissioner for a term; a member of many different community councils and programs. He also held the position of Probate Judge. If there was a need in the community and he felt he had the skillset to help he did not hesitate to step up to help and volunteer. From helping with the Youth Center, teaching confirmation classes, teaching computer classes, leather skills, and so much more. Anyone in the community who knew him, whether they encountered him once or every day, knew him for his optimism and love for life. When he was greeted and asked how he was doing, he ALWAYS responded with, “So good you wouldn’t believe it!”. And this didn’t matter if he had just been sick, been in the hospital, or anything else that others might grumble about. He did not grumble. He always saw the light of life. Jim is preceded in death by his parents James and Margaret Summers Sr. He is survived by his wife, Betty Summers, and their children: daughter, Kelly Frick and her husband Brian with their daughter, his granddaughter, Josephine; his son Jon Summers and his wife Teri and their children, his granddaughters, Angelica and Lucille; his siblings: brother Stephen with his wife and children, brother David and his children, brother Mark, brother Mike, sister Kathy with her husband and children, sister Jenny with her husband and children. There are several other family members who were near and dear to him that have survived him. The most important to mention is his uncle Ray and Aunt Joan. The stories and fondness he shared about them are too important and special to not mention them. A Private Family Funeral Service will take place at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, New Mexico. Burial will follow at the Estancia Catholic Cemetery.
