James "Jim" Burrel Pachta

November 23, 1959 — November 28, 2023

James Burrel Pachta passed away at his home on the evening of November 28, 2023 surrounded by his family and friends, at the age of 64. James (Jim Bob) fought his battle with cancer the last three (3) years with humility and dignity. Jim was born to Henry Lee and Dona Jo Pachta on November 23, 1959 in Mountainair, New Mexico. He was raised in New Mexico at a young age until his family relocated and settled in Pueblo, Colorado where he graduated from high school. Jim enjoyed spending summers with his grandparents, Burrel and Lea Chaney. The day after his graduation, he returned to Moriarty, New Mexico to be closer to his grandparents. Not long after moving to Moriarty, Jim started working for the King Brothers where he did all aspects of the industry from caring for cattle, hauling cattle and finally settled into the farming side where he enjoyed running all the heavy equipment and tractors. Jim was very devoted to his job with SLK Farming who were more like family to him than employers. Jim took pride and looked forward to planting, irrigating, harvesting, and of course, his favorite time was corn cutting. Jim worked faithfully for the Kings for 42 years until his health required him to take a step back. Jim ran his own cattle for many years on different leased places near Moriarty and surrounding areas. His love for farming, ranching, and diesel mechanics, was passed on to his three sons; James(Jimmy), Patrick and Stephen Pachta. Jim married his wife, Dorothy Encinias-Pachta after a long courtship and friendship. Jim gained his “bonus” children; Brittany Ortiz and Caleb Encinias and a large extended family whom he loved and enjoyed spending time with. Jim and Dorothy were truly best friends and blessed to be partners in life. Jim was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and rarely missed a game. He enjoyed hunting with his family at the family ranch in Des Moines, New Mexico. The Ranch was a place of serenity and peace for Jim. In the days prior to his death, Jim wanted to make sure that the truck was filled with gas, so he and his boys could go to the Ranch. The last thing on his bucket list was to visit the ranch one last time, but his health deteriorated and he was unable to make the trip. Jim was very proud of the Pachta name and would share the family history to anybody that would lend an ear. Jim enjoyed keeping up with the family artifacts and gave a history lesson on each of those artifacts. Jim was a very quiet man who tended to stay to himself. In the last year his outings were limited to attending church service. Jim’s love for the Lord grew and he was very committed to attending church. He enjoyed attending bible studies and hearing the Sunday messages. He was proud to become a member of The Stanley Union Church this year. This hardworking and quiet man will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Henry Lee Pachta; his grandparents, Burrel and Lea Chaney and Elmer and Hazel Pachta; and, his mother-in-law, Florinda C. Encinias. Jim is survived by his mother, Dona Jo Pachta; his loving wife, Dorothy Encinias-Pachta; sister, Carol Pachta (son Micheal); his children and grandchildren; Jimmy and Melody Pachta (Trevor and Preston); Patrick and Lindsey Pachta (Jackson and Reagan); Stephen and Shari Pachta (Jasper); Brittany Ortiz (Mikaylee and Payton); and, Caleb Encinias; Jim also leaves behind numerous brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Viewing will take place on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Harris Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, New Mexico. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stanley Union Church in Stanley, New Mexico with Pastor TIm Falling officiating. A meal will follow the services at the Moriarty Lions Club. Pallbearers will be: Renita Encinias, Caleb Encinias, Tyler King, Audra King, Raymond Encinias, Curtis Apodaca, Fred Apodaca, Joe Sandoval and Armando Ramirez, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be: His grandchildren, Mikaylee, Trevor, Jackson, Reagan, Payton, Preston and Jasper, and his goddaughter, Edie Marie Long. The family would like to thank Presbyterian Hospice (Debbie Riley, RN; Chaplain Paul; and, Yvette Montoya) for the kind care and treatment provided to their husband and father during the last months of his life.
