Former County Commissioner James W. Frost passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 14, 2024 at the beehive in Edgewood at the age of 94. Mr. Frost was born on Feb 14, 1930 in Williamston, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Rowland B. Frost; his mother, Emily (Bourns) Frost; his wife, Patricia (Lantz) Frost; his younger sister, Alfreida Frost; his younger brother, Frank Frost; his older sister, Dorothy Frost Kendall, his stepdaughter, Susan Aldrich; and his granddaughter, Laura Miller.

Surviving his death are: son Randy Frost, Sr.; daughter Susan (Frost) Bloom, son Roger Frost; daughter Colleen (Frost) Owens stepson Jerry Miller; and stepdaughter Shelly Frost.

Also surviving are his grandchildren: Randy Frost, Jr., James R. Frost, Shane Frost , Shad Frost, Mackenzie (Frost) Bielous, Tashina (Frost) Kiley. Branden Peters, Sheree Steiner and Ashley Peters, Bradley Soots, Brandi Soots & Rose DanDommeren & Several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Frost was born in Williamston, Michigan on Feb 14, 1930. He grew up on a farm and inherited a love for horses from his father. James was active in 4-H, showing horses & beef steers. Later, he helped his children in the same 4-H activities. His other passion was music. James had a fine tenor voice. He sang in the church choir; and joined a dance band, where he played drums, sang, and called square dances. He continued playing and singing here in New Mexico For 22 years with mixed company, almost to the end of his life. He graduated from Dansville high school in 1948 and married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Graham, in 1950. They welcomed their first baby in 1951 and another in 1954. Ten years later, they adopted two young children. He served on the local school board for several years.

Early in their marriage, James worked for a large farming concern, then rented a small farm which he worked while also employed on his granduncle's larger farm. He was able to purchase this larger farm in 1959. He raised steers for market and kept some riding horses. The couple divorced in 1971.

Jim married Patricia Lantz in 1975, adding her 3 children to the family. Pat worked with him on the farm until they sold it in 1981 when they moved to New Mexico and opened Frost feeds in Estancia. He started breeding Quarter Horses and rode with his wife in the Sheriff's posse. He was elected as a county commissioner for 12 years, and held other appointed positions for the county. James and Pat had an active social life and gave shelter sometimes when drivers were stranded on I-40. it can be said that he never met a stranger. The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite Charity.
