Jacob Jonathan Oney

August 10, 1984 — May 21, 2024

Jacob Jonathan Oney, beloved husband, devoted father, cherished son, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 39 on May 21st, 2024. “Jake” was born in Palo Alto, California, on August 10th, 1984. He was one of five children to Monty Jay Oney and Donna Kay Moses. He grew up with a passion for the simple joys of life, embracing every moment. He was raised with love close to his beloved siblings, cousins, and a close-knit ranching community in New Mexico where he gained a spirit of adventure while learning that hard work pays off. As a child, his qualification at the Martial Arts Nationals event was an accomplishment he held near to his heart and fueled his lifelong martial arts enthusiasm. This required discipline, focus, and commitment, which he carried throughout all aspects of his life. He continued enjoying this passion as he watched many MMA events with family and friends. He also enjoyed football. As a dedicated Minnesota Vikings fan, he looked forward to football season every year, especially Fantasy Football, for the opportunity to carry on with competitive banter amongst friends. His love and enthusiasm for the game were infectious. In his career, Jacob excelled at the plumbing trade. He honed his skills and was able to do this, working alongside some of his dearest friends. He was always a phone call away for those in need or an unexpected leak. Jacob found purpose on his family ranch, which he called home for so many years of his life. Ranching was not just a job for him but a way of life he approached with the utmost dedication. Through ranching, he took pride in teaching his children the value of hard work and the importance of community and family. His greatest joy, however, was his family. Jacob was a devoted husband to “the girl of his dreams” Marisol Oney, for 16 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Jacob was a proud father of two incredibly amazing children, Olivia Kai and Johnathan Jay, whom he loved “more than anything else in the world,” as he used to say. He treasured every moment spent with them, from family vacations to simple evenings at home playing video games. Jacob’s sense of humor, warmth, and generosity touched the lives of everyone he met. He had an uncanny ability to make people feel welcome and valued, and his friendships were built on such a strong foundation of loyalty and mutual respect that many would consider him family. Jake’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire. Jacob is survived by his wife, Marisol; his children, Olivia and Johnathan; his parents, Monty and Donna; his siblings, Saunja, Cindy, Aleta, and Anthony, as well as brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and a myriad of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, whom he loved dearly. Services for Jacob will be held on May 30th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Eastern Hills Baptist Church and will then be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial. Jacob Oney lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication. His memory will forever be a guiding light for his family, friends, and those fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, Jacob. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved you.
