Gary E. Landon, 68, passed away April 17, 2021, suddenly at his home in Edgewood, NM. Gary was born in Albuquerque, NM on March 22, 1953 to Robert E. and Betty Lou Landon. Gary is preceded in death by his father Robert E. Landon. He is survived by his mother Betty Lou Landon of Albuquerque, NM; his wife Susan of Edgewood, NM; his son Robert Landon and wife Elaine of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Tiffany (Landon) Tabor and husband Carl of Fresh Meadows, NY; sister Lynda Millage and partner Don Colman; and grandchildren, Hunter, Gabriel, and Lucy. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. As a child, Gary enjoyed camping, hunting and fly fishing with his parents and grandparents, passing down the traditions to his children and grandchildren later in life. He dreamed of being either a Yankee baseball player or an engineer. After graduating Valley High School, he went on to study his childhood dream of engineering at the University of New Mexico, earning his bachelors and Master’s in Structural Engineering. After college, high in the San Juan mountains of south-central Colorado, he married Susan Vivian Smith, his real-life cowgirl and love of his life. Gary built a very noteworthy career as a Structural Engineer, where his influence can be seen in buildings and bridges from Sacramento to Orlando, and particularly across New Mexico. He retired from Bohannon-Huston 2015 and he has spent the past five years building his own engineering firm with his friend and colleague Jeremy Nowell. Gary was a well-respected and cherished member of the Engineering community. He was a loving family man, loyal friend, avid outdoorsman, lifelong Lobo fan, award winning Engineer, rising amateur beekeeper, hunter, mischievous joke-teller, fly-fisher, sailor, horse-back rider, vintner, owner of way too long of legs and the most suspicious smile. Funeral arrangements will be held Tuesday April 27, 2021 at _1:00 pm at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, NM. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Nowell, Sean Melville, Nick Davis, Cody Smith, Dustin Smith, Justin Waltemeyer, Dan Philips, Eric Griego, Carl Tabor, John Boehm, Don Coleman, Sam Smith, and Dustin Smith.
