Elmer Wayne Jones

Elmer Wayne Jones,79, of Edgewood, NM passed away on June 1, 2022, at his home in Edgewood, NM. Wayne was born on October 2, 1942, in Martinez, California to Jack and Bessie (Fuller) Jones. Wayne married Carla Lane on February 22, 1985, in Texas. Wayne has been a New Mexico resident for 14 years; Wayne was a lifelong learner, born with an affinity for all things mechanical. He applied his natural ability to become one of the first Master Plumbers in Texas, operating his own business for years. When rheumatoid arthritis struck, he was able to move to Baptist Hospital in Amarillo where over a 16-year career he advanced from a maintenance worker to Engineering Supervisor. In addition to his Master Plumbing license, Wayne also held a Texas Backflow Operators License and successfully completed advanced training in sterilizer operations and maintenance. Over their 37 years together Wayne and CJ enjoyed many opportunities to work together, beginning with Baptist Hospital. They went on to manage a lodge in Red River, NM and were house parents for 3 years at Cal Farley’s Girls town. He helped to open the Edgewood Walmart where he worked for over 10 years, receiving multiple customer service awards for his work in hardware and Sporting Good along the way. He was a 39-year friend of Bill and an active encourager and supporter to others. In his spare time Wayne enjoyed taking day trips, playing with kittens they fostered together and tinkering with anything automotive. His mechanical ability was match by his heart for others and he left a legacy of love for those who knew him that will never fade. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Bessie Jones, sisters, Helen, and Louise. Wayne is survived by his wife Carla Jones; sons, Wayne J., Kevin; daughters, Lavone, Dee, Kathy, Rhonda; brothers, Gary Jones, Eddie Jones; sisters, Carol Kinney, Brenda Hodges, and numerous grandchildren.
