Ella Stewart

December 16, 1930 — January 12, 2025

Corona

Our beloved mother, Ella “Lela” Stewart, of Corona, New Mexico, was called home to rest with our Lord and Savior on January 12, 2025, at the age of 94. Ella was born on December 16, 1930, in Claunch, New Mexico, to Victor and Valentina Lueras.

Ella married the love of her life, Gilbert Stewart Sr., on May 12, 1956, in Carrizozo, New Mexico. Together, they built a beautiful life in Corona, where their home became a warm and welcoming haven filled with love and laughter for family and friends.

Ella had a remarkable ability to connect with people, always bringing joy to anyone lucky enough to know her with her infectious laugh and bright smile. She looked forward to her daily visits to the Corona Senior Citizen Center to spend time with her friends. Ella was a lifelong member of the Cathloic Church, who shared her immense love for the Lord through worship and singing in the church choir at fiestas and weekly mass.

In her nearly century-long life, Ella was the cornerstone of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who brought joy to everyone with her infectious laugh and bright smile.

Ella worked tirelessly to provide for her family, taking on various jobs throughout her life. Her greatest endeavor, however, was her role as a homemaker. Her selfless sacrifices and unwavering love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren remain her most enduring legacy.

She is survived by her children: Joe (Mary Jane) of Albuquerque, NM; Gilbert of Corona, NM; Robert (Sybol) of Edgewood, NM; Laura (Eddie) of Colorado Springs, CO; Teresita (Jeff) of Odessa, TX; and Patricia (Jim Bob Miles) of Dexter, NM. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and a community of beloved friends.

Ella is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Stewart Sr; parents, Victor and Valentina; daughter, Ramona; granddaughters, Stephanie and Alexandra; daughter-in-law, Janetta; brothers, Jose, Espiridion, Louis, Eddie, Carlos, Alex, and sister, Mary.

A celebration of Ella's life will be held on February 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Corona, NM.
