Earl Leslie Head, age ninety-one, died August 31, 2020 at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque after a Hemorrhagic Stroke due to two minor falls. He was born to Harvey and Iola Barnett Head on September 29, 1928 in Sherman, Texas. After graduating from Sherman High School, he went to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Baylor with a BS and MS degree in Chemistry in 1951. Then he began working at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He married Billye Marie Langston Head in 1952 and they had three children: Leslie Anne, Stuart Randall, and Linda Marie. In 1969, he decided to pursue another career path and grow hydroponic tomatoes. So he and Billye chose Estancia, New Mexico. During his time raising tomatoes,he became more excited about soil chemistry. Several years later, after updating his secondary education credentials, he began teaching all levels of mathematics at Mountainair High School and then moved to Estancia High School from which he retired in 1994. He was the youngest of five boys: Lloyd, Homer, Ray, Raymond, and Earl. He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Iola Barnett Head, a newborn daughter, son-in law Joe Keith Lawlis and his brothers. His survivors are: His wife Billye Marie Langston Head. Children: daughter Leslie Anne Chavez and husband Jerry, son Stuart Randall Head, daughter Linda Marie Lawlis and daughter-in-law Barbara Jean Head. Grandchildren: Gavin Bryce Lawlis and Anastasia, Nastassia Dawn Chavez, Camden Ryan Lawlis and Shawna, Brian James Head and Tamar, Shannon Rene Head, and step-grandson Estevan Chavez. Great grandchildren: Emma, Micah, Kinley, Cooper, Elaine, Earl James, and Katya Earl was a person with many interests, who set high standards for his offspring and he certainly will be missed.
