Obituary He Was A Gift To Us All Douglas Eugene Treece, 82, Of Edgewood, NM passed away Saturday February18, 2023 at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He was the son of Theo and Connie (Barber) Treece. Doug entered into life October 12, 1940 in an unusual way as his mother was picking cotton in rural Craighead County near Caraway, AR. He was the second child out of 14 born to Connie and Theo. He saw many parts of the country that most will never see as the family moved many times between Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Arkansas before finally settling down in Michigan. Doug enjoyed formal learning in spite of the many interruptions and excelled in drafting classes. Early on he began learning all about auto mechanics at his father’s side. He began formal employment in production at Willow Run GM Fisher Body Plant. For 7 years he was skilled in all departments and worked throughoutthe plant. He went onto work 47 years with Dearborn Steel Tubing (DST Industries) in Palm Springs, CA ultimately rising to manager. Many years were spent building prototypes and painting the newest models for Ford advertising. He was imbued with a marvelous creativity whether he was working on vehicles, wood working, ceramics, model building, or making repairs around the house. Doug married his first love, Emma Lowell (dec.d) on January 30, 1960 in Ypsilanti, MI and was blessed with a wonderful, loving daudhter, Robin Sokolik of Roscommon, MI. Robin blessed Doug with 3 granddaughters, Shauna Bruce, Sabrina Norris, and Ellie Sokolik. Sabrina has added joy with 2 great granddaughters, Bailee and Emmalie. Son, James (Joanne) of Toledo, OH carries on the creative and innovative abilities inherent in the entire Treece family. They have 5 children, Charles, Allison, John, Elizabeth, and Joseph who in turn have 10 children which makes Doug have a total of 12 great grandchildren! Doug leaves behind a multitude of nieces and nephews whom he saw on Facebook and Loved them too. Doug’s wife Angelina “Jodi” (Kirk) and her son Jordan enjoyed happy years together in Palm Springs, CA and Doug was a very important father figure to Jordan. The family enjoyed many Boy Scout camping and fishing trips and Doug’s skill at making spectacular Birthday Cakes for Jordan. After moving to Edgewood, NM in 2011 to rejoin his longtime friend and love, Mary Moon, he enjoyed tending a flock of chickens, rockhounding, helping Mary in the garden, sitting on the porch watching sunsets, clouds, and hummingbirds, and of course restoring his 1991 Ford F150, as well as creating gifts in his woodshop. Doug also enjoyed a friendship with Mary’s daughters and granddaughters. Doug’s numerous siblings are as follows: Katherine “Kathy” Berean (deceased), Jerald “Jerry” of Pleasant Valley, AR, Carolyn “Carol” of Mountain View, AR, Glenda Katz (deceased), Roger (deceased), Thelda Ann (Don) Premo of Westland, MI, Gary (deceased), Donald (deceased), Randal “Randy” (Gaye) of Tekonsha, MI, Mark (Sherry) of Mountain View, AR, David of Brooklyn, NY, Phillip (Jessica) of Chandler, AZ, and Patricia Gale (Jeff) Smith of Gilbert, AZ Doug brought immeasurable joy to his family and friends. He was a true “Old Soul” and is missed and his love is treasured for as long as we live. Please honor him by passing on memories of how he touched your heart and spread love to those around you. There are no services planned at this time. Doug was not one for ceremonies so may we find peace and honor him in our own way. Condolences may be posted at www.harris-hanlonmortuary.com
