David Cass Tyler

June 20, 1948 — February 22, 2024

Surrounded by his loving family in his Willard home David Cass Tyler, 75, was received into eternal rest with Our Lord and Savior on February 22, 2024. Cass was born June 20, 1948 to Frances (maiden name Hodge) and Gerald Tyler in Pampa, TX. He lived his youth throughout Texas and Alabama with his siblings Rina, Steve, Jason, and Gene, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins nearby. Cass moved to New Mexico as an adolescent when his mother began working as a schoolteacher in Estancia, NM. He was a graduate from New Mexico Tech, lived in Socorro as a young adult, spent approximately 10 years in Anchorage, Alaska, and briefly in Louisiana before moving back to New Mexico. He pleasantly enjoyed his last 28 years in Willard, NM. Cass was strongly opinionated with an enormous heart and untouchable sense of humor. He was a very spiritual man and a practicing member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He always carried himself with dignity and integrity but was ready to lighten anyone’s spirits with a joke at any given moment. Cass was clever and filled with wide ranging intelligence gained through all his life experiences of which his favorites were carpenter, and his amazing career in computer science. He did groundbreaking work as a systems engineer at ARCO in Alaska, the White Sands Missile Range in Socorro, and Voss Scientific in Albuquerque. His highly recognized work in coding was published both locally and internationally several times. Cass is survived by his unconditionally loving wife Margaret Garley-Tyler. Children: Tamar Tyler, Dominic Barela, Jason Hahn [Teresa Hahn], Gerald Tyler [Stephany Tyler], Jana Dozier [Kyle Dozier] Victor Corral Jr., and Sasha Corral. Grandchildren: Gavin Tyler, Robert Tyler, Bethany Tyler, Javan Barela, Tristan Dozier, Adalyne Dozier, Emberly Dozier, Victor Corral III, Amaya Corral, Aspen Corral, Noah Calzadillas, Emma Tolleson, Ashley Hahn, Austin Hahn, and Jasmine Hahn. Siblings: Varina White [Tom White] and Steve Tyler [Cathy Tyler]. Sister-in-laws Patsy Toennis [Allen Toennies], Martha Garley-Liszcz, Marina Garley, Brother-in-laws Arthur Garley, Leroy Garley Sr., & Gearld Garley, Cass was preceded in death by his parents Frances and Gerald Tyler, brothers Gene & Jason Tyler. Mother & Father-in-law Francis & Luben Garley. Daughter-in-law Stephany Tyler [Gerald Tyler] Sister-in-law Carmen Garcia [Jose Garcia], Brother-in-laws and best friends Osvaldo “Butch” Garley & Michael Garley. Nephews Christopher Garley & Steven “Bubba” Garcia. He will be remembered for all the love and knowledge he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it too. Cass had a way of making you feel seen. He will be missed dearly. Services are as follows: Saturday March 2, 2024 at Our Lady of Sorrows in Willard, NM Rosary- 10am, Funeral- 11am, & Burial to immediately follow at El Rosario Cemetery A meal will be served at the Willard Community Center lovingly provided by gracious nephew Santiago “Alex” Garcia and beloved son Dominic Barela Pallbearers: Dominic Barela, Victor Corral Jr., Kyle Dozier, Nathaniel Garley, Robert Tyler, Victor Corral III.
