David Galvan, age 66 and a resident of Edgewood, NM for 32 years, passed away at his home on May 17, 2018 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and some of his favorite music. David was born on June 16, 1951 in Chicago, IL, to Arthur and Santa (Gonzalez) Galvan. In 1972, he joined the United States Air Force and completed two tours of duty, finishing his military career in 1981. During his service, he was stationed in 1975 in the Philippines where he assisted evacuees escaping Saigon in the Vietnam War, and also later at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque. He was united in marriage to Carole (Hopkins) Galvan on October 16, 1981. David worked for Intel in Rio Rancho, NM, retiring after close to 30 years. Dave was known to have a very artistic passion which he pursued in his spare time and in the year following his retirement. He was an extremely talented artist, creating many drawings, portraits and landscape paintings with oils. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, listening to a wide array of music, working out mathematical equations, reading, watching movies and making crafts by hand. He had a great sense of humor and an even greater laugh. Everyone who knew him was affected by his love for the arts and his love for life, especially his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Santa Galvan. David is survived by his loving spouse of 36 years, Carole Galvan; son, Drioux Galvan of Boston, MA; daughters, Noelle Turner (Wade) of Sutherland, NE, & Olivia Galvan of Edgewood, NM; grandchildren, T.J. Turner & Trinity Turner of Sutherland, NE; and sisters, Diana Fernandez (Albert) of Columbus, OH, Sabina Wolf (Brad), Clara Little (Don), Sylvia Bailey (Scott), and brother, Frank Galvan, all of Chicago, IL. A memorial service celebrating his life is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM.
