Cristoval "Chris" Chavez

Cristoval “Chris” Chavez 89, of Stanley New Mexico passed away on Sunday March 2, 2025 at his home in the loving arms of his beautiful wife Rita. Chris was born on January 29, 1936 to Catalino and Onofre Baca Chavez. Chris was a lifetime resident of Stanley New Mexico. He was a dedicated and loving husband for 66 years to his wife Rita Chavez. Chris worked for more than 50 years for the King Brothers Ranch in Stanley NM as a Mechanic. Chris liked hunting when he was younger. When Chris became older, he liked to go with his sons and nephews on their hunts to maintain the camp and look after his grandchildren while the guys went off to hunt. Chris also loved to tinker in his shop fixing and inventing mechanical things to put to good use. Chris loved looking after his livestock in Wagon Wheel NM. Chris loved spending time at the ranch with his brothers, sisters and cousins. And is survived by his five children Randy and wife Becky Chavez, Christie and husband William Townsend, Samuel Chavez, Steven and wife Rosemarie Chavez and Kimberly Chavez. His adoring grandchildren Tisha Townsend, Bridget Chavez and Jake Salazar, Brooke and husband Derek Schaff, Jena Torres, godson Carlos Torres, Jude and wife Emily Chavez, Alejandro Sanchez and Lily Bean, Sofia Sanchez and Anthony Griego. The light in his eyes came from his Seven Great Grandchildren. Chris had 9 brothers Clyde, Ray, Joe Willie, Lupe, David, Tommy, Adrian, and Buck. Chris also had 3 sisters Mary, Linda and Grace. Chris loved spending time with his family more than anything. His family provided the warmth in his heart and the love in his smile. Memorial Services are planned for March 22, 2025. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 with the celebration of Mass to follow at the Nuestra Senora De Las Remedios Catholic Church in Galisteo, NM. Following mass, a reception to celebrate Chris’ life will be held at the Galisteo Community Center.
