Moriarty

June 13, 1943 – December 9, 2024 Cindy Kay Abbott, 81, of Moriarty, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 13, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Alexander and Eva Sholtz. Cindy was one of 13 children, growing up in a large and close-knit family.

Cindy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to all who knew her. She had a heart full of love and kindness and was always ready to lend a hand or offer a listening ear. Her caring nature and warmth made her one of a kind, and she will be deeply missed.

In 1967, Cindy married the love of her life, Alden Abbott. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. In 1977, they moved to Moriarty, New Mexico, where they raised their four children and granddaughter, Ashley.

Cindy had a passion for baking, sewing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of the Moriarty community and dedicated much of her time to helping others. Cindy opened "Cindy’s Upholstery Shop," where she skillfully restored and transformed broken and worn furniture into beautiful pieces. She also drove a school bus for the Plant family and was deeply involved in the community.

In addition, Cindy was a founding member and president of Enchantment Legacy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the elderly in the East Mountains. With the help of a close friend, she organized fundraisers to raise funds for the cause, often baking for days in preparation. She was passionate about giving back and found great joy in serving others.

Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Alden Cecil Abbott; her son, Darryl Glenn Abbott; her daughter-in-law, Tina Abbott; her granddaughter, Samantha Abbott; her parents; and 12 siblings.

She is survived by her children: Brian and Martha Abbott (son and daughter-in-law), Philip Abbott (son), and Eva Abbott (daughter); her grandchildren: Ashley Abbott, Michael Trainer, Paisley Pandolfo, Taylor Thurston, Laurel Thurston, Scott Abbott, Jennifer Abbott, Sarah Abbott, Christopher Abbott, Kassidy Abbott, and Jessie Abbott; as well as her great-grandchildren: Sterling Pandolfo and Andon Thurston.
