Christine “Chris” Elizabeth (Young) Cruz With deep sorrow and much love we mourn the passing of Chris Cruz. Born on February 11,1940 Chris passed away on June 20, 2023 at the age of 83. Preceded in death by her loving parents Elizabeth and James Young, as well as her brother James Young. Survived by Edward “Eddy” Cruz Jr, her husband of 61 years, and their four children Patricia (Mike) Magallanes, Eddy (Marcella) Cruz, Elizabeth “Lisa” Cruz, and Michael (Caitlin) Cruz. Her legacy continues with her many grandchildren, some that have been named after her. Grandchildren Devin Christopher (Vanessa) Magallanes, Ashley (MJ) Magallanes, Ruben Cruz, Desiree (John) Sanchez, Chanel (Kepo'o) Nerpio, Monique (Alex) Salazar, Clayton Cruz, Jacob Cruz, and Alex Cruz. Great-GrandChildren Harley Elizabeth Magallanes, Ethan Cruz, Logan Magallanes, Michael Nerpio, Stephen Nerpio, Christine Nerpio, and Amelia Sanchez. Siblings Edith Taylor & Roberta Frizzell, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends continue to honor her memory as well. Born in Mescalero and raised in Tularosa, NM, Chris graduated from Tularosa High School. Chris and Edward lived in Oxnard, CA for many years where she worked as a Bilingual Teacher's Aid at Ansar Larsen School. Chris lived for her family and is remembered as a very patient and kind Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. A warm and loving homemaker, her love of children and dedication to family shone with a house that was always full of friends who called her Mom. Upon moving back to New Mexico with her husband and youngest son, she was a Bus Driver for the Moriarty-Edgewood School District until her retirement. She was so proud of all of her bus #20 riders over the years. Chris made everyone’s favorite flour tortillas, gave the best hugs, and loved her Westerns and country music. She was a gifted seamstress who made her own patterns. She could make anything and gifted many treasured pieces. Join family and friends in memorial at St. Francis De Paula Parish 704 St Francis Dr, Tularosa, NM 88352 Rosary Service on July 20th at 7:00 pm Funeral Mass on July 21st 10:00 am Internment and Reception at the Center to follow.
