Carmelita Sanchez

Carmen (Matilda) Sanchez, 74, received her wings and went to walk in heaven alongside the angels with our Lord & Savior, on December 30, 2023. She was born on July 16, 1949, in Duran, NM, to her late parents Jose and Juanita (Sanchez) Lucero. She lived and raised her three children in Estancia, NM. She later moved to Socorro with her significant other. She lived there for over 25 years and returned back to Estancia after retiring from New Mexico Tech. She moved back to Estancia to be closer to all her family, whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by all of them. She is survived by Johnny Benavidez (Old Man), her significant other, her daughter Diamantina Sanchez of Estancia, son Brian Sanchez and wife Emily of Tajique, son Randy Sanchez and wife Hanna of Estancia, NM. She has 10 grandchildren: Cassandra Quinones (Luis), Zaryah Burnett, (Stewart), Isaiah Sanchez, Dominic Sanchez, Zantaysah DeLeon, Caitlyn Sanchez, Savannah Sanchez, Tyler Modgling, Nathan Sanchez, and Payton Sanchez. She has 7 great grandchildren: Zaylee Burnett, Rachel Burnett, Rebekah Burnett, Luis Quinones, Allyanna Quinones, and Giovani Quinones. Sisters: Gloria Torrez and husband Joe of Albuquerque, Teresa Wallace and husband Ronald of Alamogordo, Maria Barela and her late husband Pete Barela of Estancia, Bella Lucero of Estancia, Joane Sanders and significant other Paul of Estancia, Dolly Hollingsworth of Albuquerque, Sylvia Lucero of Albuquerque and Fiancé Steve, Esther Sanchez and husband Jerry of Albuquerque, Sandra Lucero of Estancia, Virginia Sedillo of Albuquerque and brother, David Lucero and wife Tina of McIntosh, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Juanita Lucero, grandson Isaiah Diego Sanchez, brother, Alfonso Lucero Jr., brother-in-law, Pete Barela, niece Valerie Barela, niece Samantha Sandoval, and great nephew, Easton Sanchez. Pall Bearers: Cassandra Quinones, Zaryah Burnett, Caitlyn Sanchez, Zantaysah DeLeon, Savannah Sanchez, Dominic Sanchez, Tyler Modgling, Nathan Sanchez and Payton Sanchez.
