Carl David Dahl was born on November 25, 1929 in Magdalena, NM to Carl Wilhelm Dahl and Bessie Geraldine Dahl. He grew up on their cattle ranch in Pie Town, NM with his three siblings: Betty, Billie, and Wayne. The family relocated to their farm in Albuquerque, NM where Carl met the most beautiful girl in school: Maxine Ruth Gerichs. Carl enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in February 1946 and was honorably discharged in April 1947. Three months later, Carl and Maxine became wed and started building their lives together. They raised their four children Judy Carlene, Sharon, Darwin and Susan (Dee Dee) in the Albuquerque area. Carl worked for the Albuquerque Publishing Company where he retired as the Pressroom Superintendent. Being raised on a cattle ranch, Carl was handy with a rope. While in the Coast Guard, his roping skills were put to good use when they were bringing in the buoys during storms. On his lunch breaks at APC, Carl practiced his calf tying skills and competed in calf roping at rodeos on the weekends. Carl’s passion for horses didn’t fade with age; he owned and raised race horses in retirement. His quick wit and sense of humor brought laughter and smiles to everyone around. His pride and joy were his family and his horses. His faith in the Lord was unwavering. Carl was called to his everlasting home on Friday May 7th, 2021 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Maxine, his son Darwin and wife Tammy, his daughter Judy Carlene and husband John, his daughter Susan (Dee Dee) and husband Bill, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his daughter, Sharon. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 11th, at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM from 4-6 PM.
