Barbara Bryan Hutchison, 74, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, died February 20, 2018, at the Oklahoma Heart Institute in Tulsa. Mrs. Hutchison was born October 2, 1943, in Corona, New Mexico, to Walter and Flora Lea Bryan. She graduated from Corona High School and continued her education at the University of New Mexico, where she earned a B.A in English Education. She later attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with an M.A. in Psychology and a PhD in Educational Psychology. She used her education to promote the needs of students by first working as an educator and director in alternative educational programs at Moore Public Schools. Later, she became a university professor at Northeastern State University, at which time she worked to prepare students to become high school counselors. An avid and award-winning gardener, she loved flowers and found ways to include them in a variety of indoor and outdoor horticultural projects. She enjoyed watching the Thunder play basketball, attending Tai Chi class, talking with friends, and spending time with family. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Tahlequah and the local Democratic Women’s Club. Married for 52 years, Mrs. Hutchison is survived by her husband, Dan Hutchison; her children and their spouses, Kent Hutchison and Angela Bryan and Sharla Hutchison and Michael McDaniel; grandchildren, Ainsley and Finley Hutchison; brothers, James, Gilbert, William, and Edward Bryan and James Hutchison.
