Amelia King Shield, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Saviour peacefully at her home on November 18, 2024. She was born July 15, 1929 in Cimarron, KS to her parents August and Wanda Schultz. Amelia was the second youngest of eight children. The family moved from Kansas to the Estancia Valley when she was a young child. Amelia was a graduate of Estancia High School. She married James “Earl” King in 1950 and together they had three children. Earl died unexpectedly at a young age in 1960. In 1966, she married Bob Dee Shield. He had four children and together they raised seven children. Bob and Amelia were active members at First Baptist Church of Moriarty from the beginning of their marriage. Amelia was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Amelia was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed opening up her home for family gatherings, especially Christmas. She loved to bake for family and friends and was known across the valley for her apple pies and strawberry rhubarb jelly. She loved being “Granny” and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits. One of Bob and Amelia’s favorite pastimes was going to dinner and a movie. They also loved traveling across the country to rodeos, ropings, games, and any other activities their grandkids were involved in. Amelia’s greatest legacy was sharing her faith with family and friends and living a life that brought glory to God. Amelia is preceded in death by her parents August and Wanda Schultz; her first husband James Earl King and also her husband of 46 years, Bob Dee Shield; her siblings Viola, August, Forrest, Pete, Wayne, Wanda, and Andy. Also preceding her in death were three of their children, Bobbie Greenling, Dan Shield, and Roy Shield. Amelia is survived by her children, Alan King (Joie), Sue Berg, Judy Salvo (Bobby), Allen Shield (Nancy); sister-in-law, Carol Cook (Lynn); nineteen grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Bosque Trails Hospice, especially Chasie,Tasha, and Hayley, for all of their loving care for Amelia over the last year.
