Alberto D. Chavez

Alberto D. Chavez, 80, met the eyes of Jesus on March 29, 2019 in his home in Estancia, New Mexico surrounded by his family. He was born on September 6, 1938 in Torreon, NM to the late Juan and Rafelita (Sanchez) Chavez. Alberto lived in Estancia for the past 61 years. He retired from the NMDOT in 1988 and was a member of the Cursillo Movement. On August 17, 1957 he married the love of his life, Barbara Barela in Mountainair, NM. Alberto will be deeply missed by his family, friends and community. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Connie Chavez and Pauline Chavez; brother, Ralph Chavez and nephew, Ralph Chavez Jr. Alberto is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Chavez; sons, Daniel Chavez and wife Melanie, Carlos “Charlie” Chavez and wife Cheryl and Leonard Chavez and wife Maria; daughters, Elizabeth Griego and husband John, Darlene Jenkins and husband Mike, Bernice Chavez and husband Ernest, Helen Barela and husband Victor and Trudy Graham; brother, Johnny Chavez and wife Vita and sister, Claudina Gomez and husband Rocky. Alberto was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Estancia, NM. The Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. The Celebration of Mass will be on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Pallbearers will be Isaiah Chavez, Tucker Chavez, Daniel Chavez, Marko Urban, Bonifacio Garcia and Victor Dean Barela. Honorary Pallbearers will be Daniel Lovato, Dillion Urban, Elijah Garcia, Nicolas Barela, Derek Chavez and Xavier Jaramillo. Burial will be at the Estancia Catholic Cemetery.
