Albert Thomas, 83, passed away on February 27, 2021 in Edgewood, New Mexico. He was born on May 16, 1937 in New York City, New York to the late Albert and Marie Kyritz. He was adopted and raised by Slim Thomas after moving to New Mexico. Al retired from the NM State Highway Department (now NM DOT) and then from Billingsley Engineering. He was a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church in the Estancia Valley Parish as a lector as well as other ministries and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He has been highly active in the Moriarty community since moving here in the 1977. Albert loved his coffee time meet & greets with his friends at different restaurants around Moriarty. Albert is preceded in death by his adopted father, Hotha (Slim) Thomas, his mother Marie Kyritz and his father Albert Kyritz; his brothers, Jim Jones and Edward Jones and sisters, Doris Dixon and Delores Wood. Albert is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Josie Thomas; daughter, Lora Lee Ortiz and husband Steve; son, Albert Michael Thomas and wife Lisa; brother, Scott Thomas and wife Paula; grandchildren, Stephen Ortiz, Lorin Saavedra and husband Luis, Jamie Viramontes and husband Cole, Luke Thomas and wife Mary, and Isaiah Thomas and great grandchildren, Shayla, Lucas, Leo, Cayden and Gracie Jo. He also leaves behind many cherished brother in laws, sister in laws, nieces, nephews, God children and extended family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, New Mexico. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. The Celebration of Mass will be on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Stephen Ortiz, Luis Saavedra, Luke Thomas, Isaiah Thomas, Cole Viramontes, and his great grandson Lucas Saavedra. Honorary Pallbearers will be his other great grandsons Leo Saavedra, Cayden Viramontes and all his many God Children. Burial will follow at the Red Hills Cemetery at the Larrañaga Family Ranch in Red Hills, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St Vincent de Paul society would be greatly appreciated.
