Roy Gerald Gibson, 55, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at his home in Moriarty, New Mexico. Roy was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on October 8, 1953 to Angus P. and Gloria (Chavez) Gibson. Roy was a life time resident of NM coming to Moriarty from Roy Dean Ranch in Estancia, NM. Roy was a ranch hand for Roy Dean Ranch as a teen and served as a livestock inspector in Santa Fe, Taos, and Las Vegas from 1973 to 1995. He served as a San Miguel County Deputy Sheriff from 1995 to 2000. Roy also ran two ranches part time from 1990 to 1997 one being the cow-calf operation on the Bonita Ranch just north of Storry Lake in Las Vegas and a yearling operation for the Thortonbery Family just east of Las Vegas near Trujillo, NM.. He loved riding horses and roping. He was a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in 1975 by completing the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy. Roy graduated as an Estancia Bear in 1971. He is preceded in death by his parents, Angus and Gloria Gibson; and one sister, Darlene Gibson. He is survived by his sons, Roy Glenn Gibson and his wife, Vera, of Los Lunas, NM, Justin Lee Gibson and his wife, Kendall, of Edgewood, NM, and Gerald Robert Gibson of Las Vegas, New Mexico; one brother, David Gibson and his wife Sue, of Moriarty, NM; two sisters, Kathy Gutierrez, and Corrine Brazfield and her husband, Lester of Moriarty, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a Rosary on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 9:00AM followed by Mass at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. Pallbearers will be Max Lopez, Sam Wilson, Ray Baca, Stephen Ortiz, Michael Gibson, and Joe Garcia. Burial will follow the Mass at the Red Hills Catholic Cemetery.
