CANDELARIA -- Pete Candelaria, 72, passed from this life to a better one on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque NM. Pete was born on October 16th, 1935 in Chilili, NM to Isidora (Garcia) and Vivian Candelaria Sr. He is survived by the love of his life his wife of 53 years Terry Candelaria; his daughters Debbie Candelaria, Priscilla Ortiz and husband Michael of Moriarty; Corinne Martinez and husband Ray Sr. of Albuquerque; Tina Smith and husband Bert of Belgrade, Montana; his pride and joy grandchildren Francine Ortiz Montano, Fabian Ortiz, Ray Martinez Jr., Leroy Garley Jr., Patrick Ortiz, Melissa Ortiz, Wesley Smith, Augustus Smith, Sheridan Smith and great-granddaughter Heaven Lee Montano; a brother Vivian Candelaria Jr.; two sisters Trinnie Candelaria Martinez and Barbara Candelaria Tapia. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Mary Sabbath Candelaria and brothers; Julian, Joe and Lawrence. Pete retired from the Los Alamos National Labs as an Ironworker and also served as an elected city councilman for 25 years in Moriarty. Pete was loved and respected by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He taught us all to be strong, believe in ourselves, help one another, enjoy life and that family always came first. He gave so much and expected little in return. Pete enjoyed and lived life to its fullest; he was a man of great energy, always rising early, had great loyalty and generosity always willing to help in any way and enjoyed sharing stories of his lifetime. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 30, 2008 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Harris Hanlon Mortuary and a rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Moriarty. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Fr. William Young, celebrant. All are welcomed to attend the services for a man who gave so much to his family, friends and community. Pallbearers will be Fabian Ortiz, Ray Martinez Jr., Leroy Garley Jr., Patrick Ortiz, Wesley Smith, Augustus Smith and James Montano.
