Esquipula (Esky) V. Maes, 85, a lifelong resident of Progresso and Willard, NM, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at home with her loving family beside her. Esky was born August 30, 1919 in Progresso, NM to Federico and Refugio (Torres) Velasquez. She is survived by Bennie Maes, her husband of 56 years; daughters, Romualda Garley of Willard, NM, Isabel Maes of Alamogordo, NM, Christina Barnes and her husband Gene of Santa Fe, NM, and Roberta Pohl and her husband, Alfred of Chilili, NM; sons, Arthur Maes and his wife Margie of Albuquerque, NM, Ronald Maes and his wife Liz of Tajique, NM, and Frank Maes and his wife Karen of Willard, NM; two sisters, Rosie V. Maes and Connie Jarvis, both of Albuquerque, NM; a sister-in-law, Josefina Velasquez of Albuquerque, NM; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; a sister, Lupe Chavez; and two brothers, Adolfo Velasquez and Tranquilino Velasquez preceded her in death.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic church in Willard, NM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic church in Willard, NM. Father Ronald Stone will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Tomas Garley, Gene Barnes, Alex Maes, Lorenzo Maes, Alfred Pohl, and Tranquilino (Sonny) Velasquez. Honorary pallbearers will be all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
