Boyd Leon Bettis

August 3, 1930 — June 28, 2009

Boyd L. Bettis, passed away peacefully at his home in Moriarty, NM surrounded by his loving family. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Madge Bettis and brothers Troy and Ronald Bettis. He is survived by his children, Boyd Jason Bettis (Brenda), Jessica Medrano (Alan), Jennifer Saladen (Mike), Boyd Jeff Bettis (Sarah), and Julie Webb (Matt); Pauline Dube’, mother of his children and close friend; sisters, Clata Dodd and Carole Kay; brother, Dean Bettis (Carol); nine grandchildren; one great grandchild, expected this fall; many nieces, nephews and numerous relatives and friends. Boyd was born and raised in Canadian, TX. and spent his adult life in New Mexico. He was a longtime resident of Santa Fe and Moriarty. He was a Corporal in the US Army, a First Lieutenant and longtime member of the NM Mounted Patrol, and a member of the Santa Fe Chapter of the Elks Lodge. He owned Boyd’s Housing (Art Hay Trailer Sales) since 1972, which he operated with his sons in Santa Fe and Moriarty. He was appointed to the NM Manufactured Housing Commission by Governor Bruce King. He was a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan, loved fishing, hunting, horses, country western dancing and riding his motorcycle. He was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed. Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00AM at the Moriarty Church of the Nazarene, 1204 Poplar Street, Moriarty, NM. Interment will be at the family plot at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Under My Wing Rescue, PO Box 1920, Moriarty, NM 87035 or Moriarty High School Rodeo Club.
