Maria Ermelinda Torres

Maria Ermelinda Torres, 84, passed away at her home in Mountainair, NM on Sunday, October 4, 2009 with her family by her side. Maria was born on July 15, 1925 in Reventon, NM to Sotero and Carolina (Chavez) Romero. Maria lived in Mountainair, NM for the past fifty-three years having previously lived in Abo, NM. She married Antonio Torres, on March 17, 1945, he preceded her in death in 1977. Maria is survived by her sons, Richard Torres and his wife, Bertha, Joseph Torres and his wife, Glenda, Michael Torres and his wife, Delfina, David Torres and his wife, Nichole; son-in-law, Mike Dew; daughters, Maria Torres-Sheppard, and her husband, Robert, Gloria Torres-Okra and her husband, Darryl, Feliz Torres-Avila and her husband Robert, Dolores Torres-Aguilar and her husband, Ken, Terry Torres-Ballejos and her husband, Ted; brothers, Tiburcio Chavez and his wife, Amy; sisters, Lonicia Torres, Carol Borders and her husband, Carl, Cecilia Milligan and her husband, Ray; thirty-nine grandchildren and sixty-four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Sotero and Carolina Romero; husband, Antonio Torres; children, Lionell Torres, Julian Torres, and Ramona Torres-Dew; brothers, Ralph Romero and Victor Mendoza; grandchildren, Craig Sheppard, and Tony Torres; and great-grandchildren, Robert James Sheppard, Ermelinda Renee Sheppard, Maya Smith, Leila Smith and Krystle Savilla; aunt and uncle, Ignacio and Antonia Chavez who helped raise her. There will be a Rosary recited on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 7:00PM at St. Alice Catholic Church in Mountainair NM. The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:00AM at St. Alice Catholic Church in Mountainair, NM with Fr. Ron Stone officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at San Lorenzo Catholic Cemetery in Abo, NM. Honorary Pallbearers are Jesse Torres, Anthony Sheppard, Michael Sheppard, Leroy Torres, Byron Sheppard, Raymond Torres, Isaiah Archuleta, Joe Archuleta and Kenny Aguilar.
