Dolores “Lola” Chavez was called to be with Our Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 7, 2008. She was 104. Dolores affectionately known as “Lola” was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Born in Dilia, NM in 1904, Lola had a love for music and dancing and could always be counted on to pull out her accordion to entertain at family gatherings. Known for her keen sense of humor, Lola had an unforgettable way of making people laugh. As a young girl, Lola helped her parents raise sheep and cattle on their family ranch near Yeso. She was married to Frank Chavez, now deceased, on November 12, 1924 in Yeso, NM. They raised their children on their family ranch near Encino, NM. They were married for 54 years. Lola played an active part in running the day-to-day operation and regularly rode her horse to herd cattle until the age of 66. Lola is survived by her seven children and their spouses; daughters, Emma Lucero and husband, Elijio; Lou Archuleta and husband, Joe Ed; Albertina Chavez; Juanita Pino and husband, Nick; Oralia Chavez; and sons, Alfonso Chavez and wife, Maggie; and Paul “Tito” Chavez and wife, Eileen. She also is survived by twenty grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her eldest son, Frank S. Chavez; two grandsons, Junior Lucero and Anthony Chavez; and her son-in-law, Frank Sanchez. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino, NM and will be immediately followed by the Holy Mass. Interment will follow at the Encino Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Rick Sanchez, Ernest Lucero, Gary Archuleta, Arnold Chavez, Freddie Chavez and Nicholas Pino. Honorary Pallbearers are son-in-laws, Elijio Lucero, Joe Ed Archuleta and Nick Pino; and close family, friends Tony Chavez and A.W. Dolman. Arrangements entrusted to
