Zelfa D. Atkinson, 97, of Corona, NM passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009, in Durango, CO. Mrs. Atkinson was born on September 29, 1912 in Corona, NM to Wilbur S. and Pallie (Hester) Dishman. Zelfa was a longtime resident of Corona, NM. She married Joe Atkinson in Carrizozo, NM on February 9, 1936. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belen and was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority of Las Cruces, Retired Teachers of NM, NM State University Alumni Association, CowBelles (Local, State and National), Masonic Widows and Order of the Eastern Star. Zelfa was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Pallie Dishman; husband, Joe Atkinson and brother, Ernest Dishman. She is survived by her daughters, Joanne Stewart and her husband, Sam of Claude, Texas, and Kay Lindsey and her husband, Wayne of Corona, NM; grandchildren, Amy Sanders and husband Gary, Will Stewart and wife Amy, Mike Lindsey, and Waynette Polosky and husband Marc; great grand-children, Lyndsi Polosky, Kimberly Stewart, Whitney Polosky, Caitlyn Sprous, Brogan Stewart, Stephanie Lindsey and Collin Sprous. There will be a funeral service on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 1:00PM at the School Auditorium, in Corona, NM with Cal West Officiating. Pallbearers will be Sam Stewart, Wayne Lindsey, Mike Lindsey, Will Stewart, Gary Sanders, and Marc Polosky. Honorary Pallbearers will be Norman Stewart, Sheldon Dickie and all her Former Students. Burial will follow at the Corona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home or Charity of your choice.
