Herman Armijo, 73, a long time resident of Wagon Wheel, NM, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006 at his home. He was born April 13, 1933 to Carlos and Lucy Armijo in Dermadero, NM. Herman attended schools in Encino and Moriarty, NM and graduated from Moriarty High School on 1952. He enlisted in the Army and served his Country until 1956. Shortly after returning from his military duty in Europe, Herman fell in love with and married Mary Ann Gonzales on November 9, 1957 in Villanueva, NM. The couple lived, worked, and raised their family in Wagon Wheel, NM. Herman owned and operated Wagon Wheel Ranch, a towing and automotive service his father established in 1946. His work was his passion. He enjoyed laboring side-by-side with his father for many years, and cherished the legacy that has carried on with his own sons at his side. He also loved Torrance County, and devotedly served his community in many capacities. Herman was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. He was also a member of the Moriarty Cemetery Association, and in previous years, Herman was an active member of the Moriarty Lions Club. Perhaps his biggest contribution to the community came from his seventeen years of service on the school board for the Moriarty Municipal Schools. His commitment to the Moriarty schools began in 1972, when he was elected to the school board. He served faithfully as a member and then diplomatically led the board as vice president and president for a number of years before “retiring” in 1989. In each of these roles, Herman always acted with dedication and dignity. Herman’s hands were never idle. Hard work, remarks. He was deeply respected by the community and profoundly loved by his family. He was a pillar of strength and character-a devoted son, a nurturing brother, an adoring husband, a tender father, and an affectionate grandfather. He was also a very special friend and mentor to so many. Herman is survived by his love and best friend, his wife, Mary Ann Armijo of Wagon Wheel; two sons, Charles and his wife Kris Armijo of Wagon Wheel; and Pete and his wife Christine Armijo of Wagon Wheel; four daughters, Lucy and her husband Tom Williams of Wagon Wheel; Yolanda Armijo of El Paso, TX; Sylvia and her husband Dennis Sprenger of Scottsdale, AZ; and Rosalie Armijo and Fredrick Jasler of Edgewood, NM; one brother, Jerry Armijo and his wife Shirley of Wagon Wheel; three sisters, Jane Lovato of Wagon Wheel; Daisy Maldonado and her husband Hermino of Albuquerque, NM; and Corrine Page and her husband Arthur of Moriarty, NM. He is also survived by the precious children who called him “Grandpa” – Chad, Heather, Sara, Sydney, Kyle, Blake, Bryce, Mikaela, Faith, Ryan, and Jessica. Herman was preceded in death by his parents Carlos and Lucy Armijo; his grandson, Thomas Wayne Williams; his sister, Sally Lueras; and his brother Richard Armijo. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. The Mass will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Mt.Carmel in Moriarty, NM. Pallbearers will be Fredrick Jasler, Tom Williams, Dennis Sprenger, Randey Colgrove, Kard Sisneros and Charles Ternerio. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenton Lindley and all of Herman’s grandchildren.
