Marion Henson

September 2, 1920 — April 13, 2009

On April 13, 2009, Marion (Mott) Henson, of Moriarty, NM passed away in his home after a lengthy illness. Mott was born to the home of James Milton and Ola Christina Henson in Encino, NM on September 2, 1920. After graduating from Estancia High School, he enlisted in the Army serving in communications. After four years of service to our country he was given the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Arrowhead. Mott received an honorable discharge in 1945. He met Lillie Mae Beck and married her on June 21, 1947. Starting as a dry land bean farmer he moved to driving a milk truck, and then went to work for the Moriarty Schools in the maintenance department where he retired in 1982. Shortly after his retirement he and Lil began Mott’s Cabinet Shop, as well as his long fishing and fish frying career. He was a member of the Moriarty Volunteer Fire Department, Horseshoe Pitching Club, bowling leagues, and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where he played a key role in remodeling and maintenance of the building. Mott was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Henson; father, James Henson; mother, Ola Christina; brothers, Elmer, Marvin, and Lester Henson; and great-granddaughter, Hydee Irwin. He is survived by his sister, Lottie Mae Beck; and brother, Otis Henson, both of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Barbara and her husband, Birchie West of Moriarty, NM; and Sharon and her husband, Field Irwin of Ft. Sumner, NM; grandchildren, Brandy Barrett of Ft. Worth, TX, Buffy and Sid Ware of Moriarty, NM, Becky and Paul Crow of El Paso, TX, Holly and Wally Senetra of Rio Rancho, NM, Guy and Melanie Irwin of Bozeman, MT, and Levi and Susan Irwin of Clayton, NM; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous family and friends. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Moriarty, in Moriarty NM on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 2:00PM with Pastor Tom Schenk officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Mission Project of First Baptist Church of Moriarty, PO Box 33, Moriarty, NM 87035.
