Charlie Herbert Cantrell

Charlie H. Cantrell, 82, of Torreon, NM passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2006 at his home. Charlie was born May 5, 1925 in Snyder, TX to Jewel L. and Edna E. (Sullivan) Cantrell. He married the love of his life, Alice G. Billingsley on March12, 1972 in Plant City, FL. Alice preceded Charlie in death on April 18, 2001. Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater of World War II, and again from 1950 to 1952 in Korea and Asian waters. He obtained the rank of Radio Petty Officer 2nd class. Charlie was a member of the Society of Mining Engineers, and he helped pioneer the introduction of the self-loading elevating scraper in North America from 1966 to 1980. Charlie and Alice moved from Taylorsville, GA to New Mexico 8 years ago. Charlie is survived by his sons, Charles T. Cantrell of Cottonwood, AZ, Douglas W. Cantrell of Marietta, GA, and Gary R. Cantrell of Forest Park, GA; granddaughters, Robin Cantrell and Natalie Cantrell of Marietta, GA; a grandson, Michael Cantrell of Marietta, GA; a half-sister, Melanie Mullin of Granbury, TX; and many friends. Charlie will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. All that knew and loved Charlie will miss him. There will be a Memorial Service for Charlie at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2006 at Charlie’s home in Torreon, NM.
