Thoras Joe Dye

Thoras Joe Dye, son of Dorothy Long & Thoras Melvin Dye, passed away June 22, 2006 at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Joe was born January 6, 1941 in Roswell, he graduated from Roswell High School in 1959 and from New Mexico Military Institute in 1961. Joe played football in high school, and at N.M.M.I. and was chosen for the 1960 North South game of Jr. College All-Americans. Joe joined the U.S. Army in 1961, attended officers candidates school & was commissioned as 2nd Lt. Joe’s tour of duty was spent @ ft. Bening, Georgia. The next 13 years were spent owning/operating Roswell Livestock Commission Co. with his Dad T.M. Dye. In 1973 the family moved to Las Cruces where Joe attended and later graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelors Degree of Accountancy. While in Las Cruces Joe’s claim to fame was coaching the Montgomery Ward Wild Cats Little League Baseball team for 7 years. Though rarely winning a game special friendships were formed with the young men he coached. In 1985 Joe opened his own accounting office n Roswell (Joe Dye’s Accounting Svc.) which he owned/operated with his Daughter DeAnna until 2000. Joe was also on the New Mexico Racing Appeals Committee from 1995 – 1999. In 2001 Joe started another wonderful career as an instructor of Basic Bookkeeping, & Income Tax @ Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. Joe is survived by his Mother Dorothy Long Dye of Peachtree, his Wife of 45 years Margy G. Dye of Roswell, and 3 children – Son; James Daniel Dye & Wife Sherry – Grandchildren Danielle, Dominique, and Tiger of Cresent City California. Son; Thoras Robert Dye & Wife Saundra – Grandchildren Joseph Aaron, & Thoras Ryan of Albuquerque. Daughter ; DeAnna M. Preston & Husband Sid – Grandchildren Colt, Taylor, & Tannor of Roswell. Joe is also survived by his Brothers Albert & Wife Anne Dye, Tim Dye, and his Sisters Dottie Barbour, & Genny Long & Husband Clyde.
