Blanche Gertrude Riggle Wilson, 94, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the ranch home of her daughter, Mary G. Wilson and Jose A. Mora, at Abo, NM, where she had lived since 2006. Mrs. Wilson was born September 11, 1916 at Cheap, Kentucky to George Willis and Eva (Erwin) Riggle. She lived most of her life in Ohio. In addition to Mary and Jose, Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughter, Rebekah Thissen of Columbus, OH; two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death in 2003 by her husband of 57 years, Franklin L. (Roy) Wilson; her parents; three sisters; and one brother. Mrs. Wilson will long be remembered for all of the beautiful crochet work she did up until the day of her death. She was also very proud to have served as a WAC during World War II at Fort Knox, KY. During the past six months she was lovingly cared for by four wonderful caregivers from the Mountainair area, Christine Garcia, Jane Schuler, Faby Amezquita, and Stacey Padilla, who had all become like family to her. A local service will be held at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair, NM on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 2:00PM. Final services will be held at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, OH with burial next to her husband at Aid Cemetery, Aid, OH. Her daughter Mary served as National President of the League of Women Voters from 2006-1010. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the League of Women Voters of the United States, 1730 M St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20036 or to the DAR, Lucy Knox Chapter, c/o 904 E. Chestnut, Mount Verna, OH 43050.
