James “Walter” Sherman, 80, of Los Lunas, NM passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Walt was born in Lowell, AZ to Dallas Charles and Clare Vernell (Thomsen) Sherman on October 29, 1929. He married his wife of 58 years, Sadie Loraine Bailey, on April 6, 1952. Mr. Sherman has lived in Los Lunas, NM for the past 3 years having previously lived in Mountainair, NM and NcNeal, AZ. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a Korean Veteran and retired after 42 years with the Telephone Company. Walt was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William “Burl” Sherman and daughter, Sheila Waldon. He is survived by his wife, Sadie Bailey Sherman of Los Lunas, NM; sons, James R. Sherman and his wife, Arline and Michael L. Sherman; daughters, Denise Immerwahr and her husband, George of Mountainair, NM, Judy Cook and her husband, Darell of Parker, CO, Sylvia Hays of Gilbert, AZ, Karen Stoner and her husband, Kent of Overgaard, AZ and Gloria Robbins and her husband, J. “Evan” of Arvada, CO; brother, Floyd D. Sherman and his wife, Barbara; sisters, Virginia Western, Sharline Knight and Leona Carrillo; eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. There will be a Grave Side Service at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 3:00pm with Virgil Higgins officiating. Pallbearers will be George Immerwahr, Darell Cook, Kent Stoner, Daniel Stoner, Zackery Robbins and Evan Robbins.
