Melvin “Skeeter” Marshall Reed, 80, of Moriarty, NM passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007 at his home in Moriarty, NM. Melvin was born March 13, 1927 in Mule Creek, NM to James Arvel and Nettie Alice (Larrimore) Reed. Melvin married Dorothy Marian McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Virgil Reed; sister, Carrie Reed; step sons, Freddie P. Reed and Ronnie Gonzales. Melvin is survived by his wife Dorothy Reed of Moriarty, NM; sons, Leon M. Reed and wife Shiela of Albuquerque, NM; James M. Reed of Moriarty, NM; step son, Brett Harrington and wife Shelly of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Dana R. Martinez and husband Gilbert of Albuquerque, NM; Elva Zumwalt and husband George of Hurley, NM; step daughters, Linda M. Yates and husband Jim of Edgewood, NM; Karen R. Rademacher of Edgewood, NM; brothers, Loyd G. Reed and wife Marcella of Lordsburg, NM; Milton “Sam” H. Reed and wife Betty of Silver City, NM; Clyde T. Reed and wife Janice of Cliff, NM; sister, Peggie Knapp of Las Cruces, NM; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Melvin was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and the NM Old Timers Fiddlers Association. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Stanley Union Church in Stanley, NM, Richard Hyman officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to NM Old Time Fiddlers Association PO Box 469 Truth or Consequences, NM 87901. Cremains will be interned Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Mule Creek Cemetery in Mule Creek, NM.
