George Arthur “Butch” Del Curto, 64, of Moriarty, NM passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. Butch was born in Albuquerque, NM July 21, 1946. He lived in Vaughn, NM until moving to Moriarty in 1990. Butch was active in 4-H in high school. He judged wool in the National 4-H judging contest in San Angelo, seeing mohair wool for the first time. Butch attended school in Vaughn. In 1965/1966 he went to the NM Military Institute. In 1966 Butch went into the Army and rose to the rank of sergeant. He served from 1966 to 1968. When Butch returned from the Army he went to work for Citizens State Bank in Vaughn. Butch served as Mayor of Vaughn for two terms, president of the school board for two terms and on the Board of Directors of the Citizens State Bank. He resigned from the bank when Gary Carruthers appointed him to Director of Property Tax in 1986. In 1990 President Reagan appointed a Committee to oversee the restructuring of the USDA; Butch was part of that committee. In 1990 Butch started selling cars for Tillery Chevrolet in Moriarty, the first month he was salesman of the month. He was salesman of the month every month from 1990 thru 2006. For 17 years he was salesman of the year. Butch is survived by his wife, JoAnn Del Curto of Moriarty, NM; sons Bryan Del Curto and his wife Barbara of Estancia, NM and Dante Del Curto of Estancia, NM; sisters, Charletta Larrañaga, Genie Sue Hofeldt, Kay Cordova, Ann Larrañaga and Judy Woertz; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There will be a viewing on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 7:00PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Msgr. Sipio Salas officiating. Pallbearers will be Adolph Lucero, Joe Vicente, Percy Larrañaga, Vincie Perez, Ivan Del Curto, Nathan Del Curto, Jerry Britton, and Lorenzo Larrañaga. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Griego Jr, Norbert Archibeque, Gary Tillery, Glen Tillery, Jude Gallegos, Robert Tenorio, Dominic Perez, Eugenio Perez III, Trey Del Curto, J. T. Turner, Howard Calkins and Adam Sais. Burial will be at the Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty, NM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ioacca Foundation @ www.iacoccafoundation.org. This foundation funds research to find a cure for Type I diabetes and other conditions such as Celiac disease.
