John G. Chavez

John G. Chavez, 82, of Manzano, NM, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 21, 2010. John was born December 30, 1927 in Willard, NM to Salvador and Senaida (Gabaldon) Chavez, and raised in Torreon, NM. He had lived in Manzano, NM for the past seven years, having previously lived in Albuquerque, NM. John married Theresa Romero, his loving wife of 60 years, in Albuquerque, NM on March 28, 1950. He served in the Air Force Korean Conflict and was a former member of the American Legion Post #13 in Albuquerque, NM. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Manzano, NM of St. Alice Parish. John was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Senaida (Gabaldon) Chavez, several brothers and several sisters. His is survived by his wife, Theresa, R. Chavez, of Manzano, NM; sons, Salvador Chavez and his wife, Dorothy of Albuquerque, NM, John Chavez, Jr. and his wife, Helen of Albuquerque, NM, Ralph Chavez and his wife Dolores of Albuquerque, NM, Felix Chavez and his wife Vicky of Tyrone, NM, Patrick Chavez and his wife Annette of Los Lunas NM, Paul Chavez and his wife Juanita of Manzano, NM; daughters, Rita Ochoa and her husband Cliff of Albuquerque, NM, Antoinette Chavez Foster and her husband Lonnie of Albuquerque, NM; thirty-one grandchildren and forty-four great grandchildren. There will be a Rosary recited at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Torreon, NM on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 9:00AM. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Torreon, NM on Saturday, October 23, 2010 with Fr. Ron Stone officiating. Pallbearers will be Vicente Chavez, Andrew Chavez, Michael Chavez, Isaiah Chavez, Mathew Chavez and James Sanchez Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of John’s friends and neighbors. Burial will follow at the Torreon Cemetery in Torreon, NM.
