Mabel Otero 07-04-1930 – 10-29-2017 Mabel Otero, a lifetime resident of Mountainair, New Mexico passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87 on Sunday October 29, 2017 in the company of her two sons, Robert and Michael. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Juan Pablo Otero; her mother, Concepcion Marquez Lopez; her father, Rafael Lopez; her beloved grandmother, Alejandra Lueras Marquez and grandfather, Melcor Marquez, whom she was raised by. Mabel was born in Gallinas, Lincoln County. Because her mother passed away when she was very young, she moved with her grandparents, first to Corona and then to Mountainair, where she made her first communion, went to school and married JP Otero in 1947. Mabel is survived by her son Robert, her son Michael and his wife Theresa, her sister Mela Anderson, her sister Dicloria and husband Bennie Sandoval, half-sister Carol Sanchez, half-sister Rosemary Lopez, half-brother Ralph Lopez Jr, half-brother Leroy Lopez and half-brother David Lopez. Mabel is also survived by grandsons, Kevin Otero and Mike Otero Jr, granddaughters, Angela Montoya and Yvonne Otero. Mabel also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and other close family relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St Alice Church in Mountainair at 7:00 PM by Sarah Baca. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday November 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St Alice Church. Interment will not take place until Monday at 9:45 AM in Santa Fe at the National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Leroy Dimas, Leroy Candelaria, Edwin Marquez, Aaron Underwood, Gerald Chavez and Michael Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Orlando Gabaldon, Eddie (Neo) Gabaldon, Ed Walker, David Torres and Ramon Marquez. The family would also like to thank Evelyn and Ed Walker and Lilia Andrade for their unwavering friendship and support.
