Lanny Lee Martin

Lanny Lee Martin, 78, passed away on September 20, 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on June 26, 1939 in Beeville, TX to the late Ocie and Myrtle (Vannoy) Martin. Lanny served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints in Edgewood, NM. Lanny loved the Lord. He intensely sought spiritual knowledge from an early age and all throughout his life. He introduced generations to the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved to read and explore ideas of other cultures and belief systems to expand his faith and compassion. Highly intelligent and creative, he used knowledge and quick wit to find grace and humor through whatever life presented. He uplifted and brought heartfelt cheer to all. As an avid appreciator and scholar of life’s challenges and the blessings they emanated, he enjoyed sharing wisdom. He did so with quaint sophisticated eloquence that reached the soul. A long talk with Lanny left you laughing and crying and laughing and then hungry for more. He wasn’t afraid to challenge convention for a better way to live, learn, and love. Lanny was wholeheartedly devoted to his family. His efforts and love for them were awe inspiring. He helped them to big depths. Nothing was too hard or too great. His primary quest in life was to amplify his calling as a child of God, son, husband, father, uncle, brother, friend, grandfather, and Great grandfather. He was a loyal and dedicated husband to his wife Sybil whom he cherished always even now as he prepares her place next to him in Heaven. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sybil Martin of Edgewood, NM; sons, Glenn Martin of Edgewood, NM, Brian Martin of Edgewood, NM, Christopher Martin and wife Heather of Rio Rancho, NM and Lesley Martin of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Vanessa Sue Finley and husband Frank Tisby of Rio Rancho, NM and brothers, Van Martin and wife Sue, Donald Martin and wife Eloise and Stanley Martin and wife Patricia. Lanny was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A Memorial Celebration is scheduled Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Edgewood Branch. Burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
